Our district supports good funding for school construction, because learning suffers when kids are crammed into under-equipped portables or overcrowded classrooms.
But when Dawn came to the Legislature, she saw that the state's share of school construction costs had plummeted. This forced local levies to pay more—without getting more—for each school!
That's why the effort to increase state school construction funding became an important part of Dawn's work for property-tax relief.
Dawn's work is helping to build the schools kids need at less costs to local property-tax payers.
This is vital for our fast-growing area. As The News Tribune reported, in 2006 "Pierce County will get 25.9 percent of the (state) matching money, the largest share in the state. The amount is driven by fast-growing Puyallup" (July 20).
Dawn's effective support for schools is another reason to support Dawn!
